Food log: Friday, September 11

Today started in fine form. I ate some cereals, took a picture, then promptly forgot my camera on the kitchen table. Curses! I needed an alternative. I don't understand how the camera on my new phone works, so I used Photobooth to take a pic of my snack.

My friend Laurent was nice enough to lend me his camera during lunch. We went out at L'Aziatik to celebrate our departing intern Joel, who is leaving us after a summer's worth of working at Sid Lee.

I started with a beer and some dumplings.

I didn't want the spring roll that came with the set lunch, so I asked the server to bring me only the General Tao chicken dish. I believed I was getting this:
I was thinking this was my plate but... no
But I was actually getting this.
I actually ordered this - a FULL PLATE
I had to order another beer to forget this tasty mistake.
more beer
I asked for some rice on the side so I didn't only have a huge plate of chicken (and 3 cucumber slices!). But anyway, I was so stuffed from the dumplings that I had to ask for a doggy bag. So with tip, lunch came to $37.86. Yikes. Well, at least I'm set for lunch on Monday.

I have a party to go to tonight, so this may be it for pictures since I have NO CAMERA.

Here's a last one of my afternoon Diet Coke then ($1.25)

Lunch is gross!

Some kids made a video about how gross the school lunch they get is. Cute! And scary.

Pulled pork that cooked while I slept!
Pulled pork is SO EASY to make in the crock pot. You put the meat in, cover it with your favorite sauce and cook on a low setting for 10 hours. In the morning, you have falling-of-the-bone meat ready for sandwiches or to serves with polenta, mashed potatoes, veggies...

Make it for cheap: bagged veggies

This small 250g bag of bagged, pre-cut leeks cost $2.99

It took me about 10 minutes to wash, cut and bag the big bunch of leeks. I now have three 600g bags of veggies ready for stews, soups and quiches.

Freezer-ready!
The precut, bagged leeks may contain salt and preservatives.
My own, fresh version contains: leeks
It's simple maths, really. If you have the time and room in your freezer, why not bag your own? It's cheaper and healthier!

Food log: Tuesday, September 8

Waffles and OJ - groceries
waffles and OJ
I seem to get in a groove with breakfast. I'll eat cereals for 5 days straight, then stop because I ran out of milk. Then I'll eat waffles until the Eggo box is empty. I guess I like no-brainers in the wee hours of morning.
Morning Diet Coke from the vending machine - $1.25

Jam from a San Francisco hippie farm - a gift from Jessica
Jam - a gift from Jessica!
I told you: people just love to give me jam, for some reason. This one looks mighty tasty. (Thanks Jessica !) P.S.: what the heck is an olallieberry? I think I'll just call this "vowell jam".

Leftovers from last night
Lunch was yesterday's leftovers
I actually brought the beverage from home. This vending machine nonsense has to stop!

I got home from work and picking paint color with my brother at his new condo at 8pm, famished and too tired to cook. This was a scenario made for white trash carbs.

Honey tartine - groceries

I also picked up milk, eggs and bread from the corner store ($9.37). The guy who runs it is funny. He yells his welcomes and goodbyes, but in a very friendly way, in French but with a thick Chinese accent and lots of good cheer. "BONNE JOURNÉE! MERCI BEAUCOUP!" I freaking love him.

Food log: Monday, september 7

I spent the day inside ignoring the sun, going through my scary unread magazine pile and watching the Top Chef marathon on tv. How did you spend your Labor Day? Did you have a BBQ or cook anything interesting? Here's what I had today. I didn't spend anything as everything was made from scratch from groceries.

Alas, I had to throw away my peach pie after having only 2 pieces, because I left it on the counter and the peach juices fermented on me. Bleech! Good thing I had shared it with some friend already.
