Food Log: Monday, September 14

The day started in fine form with new breakfat options.

The bistro's tea drawer was full. I was a happy camper.

Do you know ONE persone who doesn't like deviled eggs? Because I sure don't. They are little buckets of flavor.

After work, I headed to my friend Josianne, one of my best friends. She just gave birth to her little bundle of joy and invited me over for "dinner and a baby !" Of course, she spent most of the evening feeding her son. Kids!

Josianne's beau made the delicious chili with caribou meat her dad had hunted. How's that for "made from scratch"?

Movie meals: the prison scene from Goodfellas

Ask foodies about their favorite cooking scene in a movie and this one is probably going to come up. The film itself is genius, but the part where Paul Sorvino slices the garlic with a razor blace has become a pure classic. The whole scene makes my mouth water. Every time I see it, I just want to open a bottle of wine and dig into some tomato sauce with a piece of bread!

Food log: Sunday, September 13

Today was grocery day. Note to self: don't order a delivery on the same day as the Montreal Marathon. Because all the streets will be closed and you will get your food late. Lesson learned!

Breakfast was eggs and waffles with half a glass of milk.


Since I had to wait for the delivery anyway, I didn't mind staying in and cleaning the loft. I spent the day organizing my walk-in closets (I got my freezer!) and scanned some recipes and images I had pulled from magazines.

It can hold a lot of stuff, has a nifty drawer and a "soft freeze zone" I'm not too clear on.





Then it was time for lunch.

And dinner: pulled pork and a salad


I'm still peckish. The cookie jar is winking at me and I might just wink back.

Edited to add: I just did a bit of research, and the Soft Freeze Zone of my new Frigidaire is meant to keep ice cream in. It's 9 to 11 degrees warmer than the rest of the freezer, so the frozen treats are not rock-solid and full of ice crystals.

Food log: Saturday, September 11

First, yesterday's breakfast. Told you I took a picture!


It's too bad I forgot my cam yesterday, because the food at the Boogie party was amazing. They served oysters on the half-shell with fennel relish, lollilop lamb chops, prosciutto-wrapped asparagus, falafel bites with raita, grilled shrimp and watermelon brochettes, tuna spring rolls and a full (free) bar. Later, when everyone was soused on gin and tonics, they fired up the grill again and served homemade fries and huge German-style hot-dogs. Oh, it was good! And free, free, free.

I woke up feeling the aftermath and spent the day nibbling on carbs while the electrician worked on installing my new outlets.

First, a tall glass of poison Diet Coke followed by waffles.



I snacked on some chicken liver mousse with cornichons and crackers.


Then it was time for some Gossip Girl and popcorn.

Tajin salt is great on popcorn. You can find it in latino grocery stores. It's also very good on pineapple, mango and avocados. I guess that's why they call it "fruit salt".

Later that night, Andréanne picked me up to go to our friend Laurent's surprise party (happy birthday Laurent!) at Résident restaurant. I was not in the mood for a big entrée, so I had two appetizers.

I had a few Bloody Caesars, a.k.a. the perfect hangover drink.

Dinner at Résident cost $46.64 with tip.

Look at this pile of carbs. Yikes! I need to order some groceries. Where are the fruit and veggies? And way to eat All the Salt in the World. Another thing I had a lot of today: Perrier. Lots of Perrier.
