Food log: Sunday, September 20
So how are your allergies on this fine september day? Mine are killing me and there is no more meds in my house. I still went for a walk outside, as I had plans to fill the freezer with vegetables and fruits today. So I went to Maisonneuve market and came back with about 50 pounds of produce, plus some olive oil, bread, hoisin sauce, organic apple sauce and organic instant oatmeal. Total: $72.59.

I also got a delivery from IGA, as I was low on Perrier and meat, stuff I buy in bulk. I took advantage of this order to fill the freezer with a few goodies (ice ream sandwich, anyone?). I think I will be ok for a while there. No more food shopping. I am ready for the upcoming zombie apocalypse. The IGA order came to $177 with tip.
Breakfast: flax pancakes with Reese chipits and bacon, milk - at home

BLT at home

Apple at home

Steak, mashed potatoes and corn

Honey toast

So, I worked all afternoon on the "Fill the freezer" project. I washed, cut, blanched, peeled and Ziplocked until I was left with a ton of green beans, yellow beans, tomatoes, broccoli, bell peppers, corn, strawberries and peaches ready to be eaten when the colder months come by. Yippee!

Of course, my cat could not resist playing her favorite "let's bug Eve" game: begging for a bean, playing with it for about an hour and hiding it in my bed covers.

Money spent on food today: $249.59

Today was a great day as it was my first ever visit to Montreal's Comic-Con, a low key event full of comics (duh), Superman nerds, toys, sci-fi geeks, graphicl novel authors, guys in trooper costumes and jail-bait girls in gothloli wear. It was awesome. And I also got to shake hands with Lou Ferrigno, The Hulk himself! He had a grip of steel. Good thing I had a solid breakfast!
Egg and bacon sandwich at home

Vitamine Water - $2.50

I got back home at 2pm, not very hungry, so I nibbled while doing chores.
Piece of cheese at home

Carrots at home

Cookie at home

When dinner came, it was time for some delicious take out. Hey, it's Saturday!
Indian dinner for two - $35 including tip

But the highlight of my day wasn't dinner. It was meeting Chewbacca! Woah!

Delicious peach from home while waiting for the bus

Cheese toast and a V8 from pasta Café - $4.21

You can always count on Pasta Café for burnt, cold toast. *sigh*
Cup of Earl Grey from the bistro - free

Fennel soup, chicken and duck wings, salad, potatoes and zucchini-chocolate cake from the bistro (free - buddy meal ticket)
Brilo 0 $0.50

I'm pretty sure the chefs got the recipes for the wings from Lucifer himself. SO FREAKING HOT. Laurent had sweat rolling off his face. My eyes were watering. Valerie was spitting everywhere, the spice from the wings causing overdrooling. We were a mess.
Tea time - free (bistro)

Bought some italian pastries for tonight's dinner and a bottle of balsamic vinagar at Beniamino's ($27.10)

Surprise Happy hour at work - free

From time to time, we get a special "IT'S FRIDAY!" surprise happy hour at work. Fun!
Wine from the SAQ - $28.60

I had a dinner date at Julie's tonight with her beau and our friend Véro.
Cosmo at Julie's

I know, I know: usualy, there should be no ice in a cosmo. I didn't say anything, but it was hard, since I pretty much write about cocktails on a daily basis. Even so, it was tasty! I'm not complaining!
Terrine and truffled liver mousse with bread at Julie's

Christo's pasta with home made tomato and sausage sauce

Delicious! He used fresh tomatoes and sweet italian sausage. We were STUFFED.
Salad at Julie's

After an hour-long break, we ate the yummy salad, made with pine nuts and mango.
Dessert plate at Julie's

For dessert, we had a choice of cannoli, Italian donut and lemon pie.
I think I need to go jogging now.

It's apple-picking time. Yay!
I'm so excited to go apple picking. I don't know when, I don't know how, but I WILL go. I want to bring back a big brown bag of apple and bake till I drop. There's nothing like a good apple crisp to give Fall a bit of warmth. But of course, the best part of apple-picking is eating an apple directly off the tree and leaving the core hanging from the branch, just like my dad thought me when I was a kid. Heh!

Peanut butter tartine and milk

Celery-bacon soup with bacon and sour cream, carrots, vegetable cocktail from home
Biscuits from the bistro
Diet Coke from the vending machine ($1.25)

The soup reheated really well and was very filling. I love having soup for lunch. I just don't do it often because I am always afraid my dish will suddenly open in my bag and my stuff will get soupy. And who wants soupy stuff? Nobody, that's who.
Earl Grey from the bistro

Snack attack - $2.50

This gave me a bad case of Vinegar Hands.
Meatloaf, mashed potatoes and peas at home

I like to cook meatloaf, slice it and freeze individual portions. I was FAMISHED when I got back from the pool tonight, so I popped one out of the freezer and devoured it.
Fresh peach from groceries

This was fuzzyyummydrippalicious.
