Food log: Saturday, December 12

The morning started on a good note. The cake was awaiting in the freezer and I had all day to shape and decorate it. I did not know the hilarious result that awaited me.



But first, I started with some breakfast.

Toast with peanut butter, milk



Since I forgot to count it yesterday, I'll add that the ingredients for the cake cost about $17 at IGA.

Then, I started the carving of the cake, adding the wings with icing. I should have taken a look at pictures, because I cut it wrong and the whole north wing was missing.



I added icing for the brick and tar on the roof, trying to match colors with food dye. Ha! Oh, and the yellow thing on top is supposed to be the roof terrasse. You can start laughing now.

Then, I had a construction snafu.

Mixing more dye in to get a gray color, I started to add "windows" and "doors" (note the brackets around those words).

And this, ladies and gentlemen, was the final product.

And this is what my building really looks like.

BWAHAHAHAHA!

Off to our building's Christmas dinner I went, meeting about 15 neighbors/friends at Les Cabotins on Ste-Catherine. The evening was full of merrymaking and tasty food, with promises of dessert back at my house. I had the table d'hôte.

The cooks at Les Cabotins make the preserves on the spot, they have a full wall filled with colorful Mason jars in the back of the restaurant.

The vegetables are served family-style in shared dishes. It makes it more festive and casual.

Dinner came to $74.85, including drinks and tip.

Then we came back to my place for more drinks and a piece of the building for dessert. My friends generously congratulated me for my efforts, but were more impressed by the taste of the cake than by its appearence. Hee hee!

André quickly found his window.

But I think Anne-Marie is still looking for her loft. (Hint: it's in my garbage pail.)



Marc-Henri gave me a bottle of Bailey's and André gave me a bottle of port. Thanks guys!

The last boom before Christmas

Yes yes, I will be udpating the food log today.

I am in the thick of the last blast of projects before Christmas at work, so it's been hectic and exhausting.

Toasts with PB, milk

Diet Coke from the vending machine - $1.25

I'm back on the wagon with the morning Diet Cokes. Or is it off the wagon? I need to check that Seinfield episode where they ponder that same question. Anyway, there's a wagon full of Diet Coke somewhere and it has my name on it, apparently.

Vegetable soup, herbed chicken, rice, salad with bacon, orange juice, cupcake - $6 from the bistro


That bacon was very random but still delicious.

One of our clients sent us this as a congratulation gift for winning Agency of the year. How nice!

Another Diet Coke - $1.25



After work, I met Lindsay at St-Hubert on Ste-Catherine. Yes, we had dinner at 5:30 with the grey hair crowd and it was awesome. We had a table d'hôte dinner and stuffed ourselves silly. I skipped the cute wine list and opted for beer.

Then it was time to pick our dessert. Only losers choose the berries and yogourt! Lindsay was about to wave a white flag, but in the end, we picked a pile of poudding chômeur with ice cream.




Tea was needed before going back into the cold night

We dared not walk in the cold (I was wearing my fall coat) and hopped into a cab to go surprise Jessica. Her Creative Boost painting class was graduating! We got to admire the work of our avant-garde artist friend. She did an hommage to Roscoe's. Then we had juice. A girl in a cake dress offered us cupcakes. That was weird.





Back home, I started on my project: to make a cake in the shape of my building for the annual Christmas dinner we have amongst neighbors. I used cake mixes to bake 3 cakes, then layered them with icing and quality jam. Off to the freezer it went to make it easier to shape tomorrow.

Cabbage soup, spaghetti with blue cheese sauce, banana, lemonade - $6

This lunch came with a banana-papaya milk shake, but I passed. I love bananas, but you know my opinion about banana-flavored food items. (Hint: it's negative.)

I need to stop eating these delicious snacks! How can one resist? Look at those beautiful berry jujubes! How they glisten! How they shine under my work light! Awww...

This was Month-Lee, our agency meeting, which meant free lunch! Thanks, Sid.

Outside, the snow was falling hard but we had a client meeting far away. So of we went in Yann's ride!

I do not drink coffee, but our client had delicious candy-bar flavored hot chocolate. Yum I had a Rolo and an After Eight.




Back home, I had spaghetti squash gratin, carrots, snow peas and chicken pot pie, but I forgot to take a picture of the actual meal.
