My friend Valérie gave me a nice little piece of moose meat so I roasted it with some potatoes, pears, thyme and garlic.
Moose roast with roasted potatoes and pears
The texture of moose is like a mix between roast beef and veal liver. So yummy and subtle. The last time I had it was probably in the 80's, before my grandfather's bad leg stopped him from going hunting. We used to eat the moose fondue-style, cubed and dipped in hot peanut oil, then dipped in a bunch of different sauces, with baked potatoes and a huge green salad. Oh, the good old days!

I went on a walk and stopped at Marché Maisonneuve again and purchased bread, Old Bay spice mix, chèvre, asparagus, daikon, scallions and ginger ($14.20). I also purchased a bamboo steamer with hilarious Frenchgrish on the packaging.

Last night, I discoverd Ozu's masterpiece "Sanma no Aji" (An Automn Afternoon). It's a quiet, intimate portrait of a japanese family in the sixties and features many scenes in restaurants or around the kitchen.

Suddenly, I was in the mood for a family-style japanese meal and cooked while having the last of my Maker's Mark whisky (since there's no Suntory left in my house).

Avocado, grapefruit, yellow beet and aragula sandwich
This is my variation of a recipe from the fantastic 'Wichcraft sandwich cookbook. Followers of my Tweeter feed chose the recipe for me, in what I called "Russian Roulette Cooking". It was great - juicy, crispy, luscious. Next time, I will toast the bread and maybe add a few slices of crisped up proscuitto.

I made walnut pesto for tomorrow's sandwich, also from the 'Wichcraft book
Walnut perso made from scratch
It's basically a cup and a half of toasted walnut blitzed in the mixer with a pinch of sea salt and a couple of tablespoons of olive oil. It's rich, earthy and salty. I bet it would be good with brown butter and sage on a ricotta and pumpkin ravioli.

I also made blueberry muffins using this recipe

I had a few :)

And then I ate two while watching Million Dollar Listings.

Oh, shut up. You know you watch it too.

By the way, I started a Facebook group to protest the obviously flawed design of the Beatrice lemonade packaging. This spout sucks! Beatrice, please start using caps on your lemonade!

I have the flu so I worked from home to spare my coworkers my viral self. Also, it's more polite to be at home when you stuff your nose with tissues and spread Vaseline under it.

Roasted peppers ready to be peeled and transformed into sauce
You just drop the peeled roasted peppers in a blender with a few garlic cloves, salt, pepper and a pinch of Parmesan. Then you blitz it all and drizzle in a few tablespoons of olive oil with the blender still working until it emulsify a bit.
