Food log: Saturday, October 10

Good morning from Boston! I am going to go straight to the food as I am keeping the travel diary for my French blog.

Bagel, juice and Diet Pepsi at Dunkin' Donuts - $6.38


Two pints of Harpoon I.P.A. beer, cherrie stones on the half-shell, crab cakes with coleslaw and mashed potatoes at the Black Horse Tavern - $61.32 with tip





I was SO FULL after that meal. That pub was a cool choice, in a basement under the touristy burger place on Quincy market. The cherry stones where perfect - meaty, briny and oh so fresh. The crab cakes were moist, full of tender lumps of crab. I am looking forwward to more of the same!

There is a cool wine shop near our hotel called Brix and I bought a few bottles to bring back home.

We had a very late dinner in little Italy after a long, digestive walk. But first we stopped at a liquor store to buy some limited edition Absolut Boston vodka (it's flavored with black tea and elderflower, then had dinner at Lucca.

Martini, oysters, bread with butter and pesto spread, pumpkin ravioli with pine nuts, bitter greens and gorgonzola cheese in a brown butter and apple cider sauce, with a nice bottle of wine - $79 with tip







Since it was late when we finished our meal, we managed a stop to famous Mike's pastry. Usualy, there is at least an hour's worth of wait, but we were in and out in less than 10 minutes. That place is fun, full of random people in for a quick bite, coffee or after-meal dessert. The staff are pros, tying up a box of goodies in mere seconds.

I did not eat any of those yet, because: come on. Suicide from pastry overload is for French bourgeois.

I am writing this from the car, on the road to Boston. We stopped at a nice mom & pop convenience store that sold all the usual junk food, plus Vermont cheddar and home made baked good.

I spend $6.42

By the way, I am NOT going to adjust the amounts of what I spend on food in the US to the Canadian money rate before adding everything up. Because that’s just too crazy, even for me.

The hotel is great, only 5 minutes away from Quincy Market. We got here late, walked around and ended up at some bar I forgot the name of (Vintage something?) where we enjoyed fancy bar food and a free drink, courtesy of the Absolut Boston promo team.

Good evening ladies and gentlemen. Are you ready for a food log? I'm not. I need to do the laundry and pack - I'm going to Boston with friends for a few days. Yay! So expect a lot of delicious food from exotic Massachussetts in the next few days.

In my new office there is a sticker of Eeyore on the ceiling that wave at me every time I finish my soda.


I had a board meeting tonight, so I grabbed a quick dinner then had some toast when I came back 4 hours later. Those meetings are looooong, friends.
