Who can say no to some Veuve Cliquot in the afternoon? Especially to toast such a joyfull event! Congrats to Geneviève and Nic!
Nibbles at Geneviève's baby shower
After champs and nibbles, we headed to the bowling alley. This sure beats silly baby shower games! Beer at the bowling alley - $5 including tip Nibbles and another beer at the bowling alley - $6 including tip
Then it was back home to Geneviève and Nic's place for a delicious buffet and much merrymaking. Money spent on food today: $11
Apple and tea from the bistro - free Almonds from home "Make your sandwich" day - 6$
For some reason, a disco ball was hanging above our heads while we ate. Groovy.
Gummies and pistachioes from the bistro - free Horrible whisky from home, after work
Us copywriters started a new "friday pm drink" tradition. I started things off with this piece of crap-o-rama. This bottle was an old one, but still. It was detestable. Like melted rubber mixed with cow-boy sweat. Yikes. I've really gotten used to the good stuff!
Andréanne traded this here banana for a drop of fire water. I was the obvious winner in this trade.
Then Véro's cursor turned into a coffe cup. That was weird. I blame the bad whisky.
Gimlet at home
Perfect to forget that poker-style whisky.
Meat balls and tzatziki
Pretzels
Brumont Gros Manseng-Sauvignon
Refreshing and full of flowery goodness. Yum.
I don't think I'll eat anything else, so that's it for today.
I also had a grocery delivery that should tide me over until Christmas break - $145 with tip
I was home sick today, woozy, crampy and feeling the supercharge of my new medication dosage - It was doubled last week. Didn't have much of an appetite.
Breakfast of champions - $5.24 Veal roast with pineapple sauce, mashed potatoes, green beans, carrots, salad with pecans and olives, datte square, orange juice - $6 from the bistro
This was one of the most delicious veal roasts I've ever had. Who knew pineapple could be turned into such a delicious, savory sauce! That salad was also a great idea, the freshness of the dressing was amazing with the nuts and briny olives.
Milk - free from the bistro
Crudités and dip - free from the bistro
Diet Coke from the vending machine - $1.25
Don't you think my desk makes a nice tabletop studio?
From August 24th, 2009 to August 24th 2010, I photographed everything I ate and made notes of the cost.
This included all the food and drink costs for the year.
And yes, I counted booze.
Grand total: $10 295.92
What is this blog about?
This is not a food blog.
Well, it kind of is. But mainly, it’s about the amount of money I use to feed myself, day after day. Why? Because I just don’t know. I (almost) never check prices when I buy food. I love to cook and I can easily feed six guests for less than 30 bucks (wine is extra, people), but I also spend ungodly amounts of money on grocery, then throw away a fifth of it. It has never been so easy to buy good food, but it often comes at a price. And it is even easier to buy cheap, unhealthy junk food that has an undeniable cost on our health. Where does my food budget go? How do the choices I make impact my budget, my health and the health of the planet?
